Walter Sandaas

Walter Sandaas, of Brooklyn, passed away surrounded by love. Born in Brooklyn to Patricia and Edmund Sandaas, who both preceded him in death, Walter remained deeply connected to the community he grew up in. Walter was a loyal friend, a devoted brother, and a gentle soul with a heart full of kindness. He loved animals deeply and showed that love every day-feeding the neighborhood cats who came to trust him and caring tenderly for his own beloved indoor cats. His quiet compassion touched every corner of his life. A naturally giving and selfless person, Walter was the kind of man who showed up-no questions asked-whenever someone needed help. He never sought anything in return. His generosity was simply part of who he was. Walter was an experienced and skillful painter for many years. He took pride in his craft and used his talents to help family and friends, often painting apartments and rooms with the steady, careful hands he was known for. He also had a deep love for music. Deep Purple was his favorite band, and he spent many hours playing his guitar, losing himself in the sounds he loved. Walter enjoyed riding his bike, exploring the outdoors, and finding peace in the simple moments of fresh air and open space. He is survived by his two sisters, Michelle and Kari, and his three nieces, Kathrine, Kaia, and Mia, all of whom loved him dearly. Walter also shared a special lifelong bond with his close friend Doris, who stood by his side through many of life's ups and downs and remained with him until the very end. Walter will be remembered for his gentle heart, his unwavering loyalty, his love of music and the outdoors, and his quiet acts of kindness that left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
