Walter Schliermann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ottman Funeral Home - Cherry Valley on Sep. 4, 2024.
It is with broken hearts that the family of Walter Gene Schliermann Sr. announce his passing. Walter was born January 13,1948 to Walter and Gene Schliermann. He graduated from Worcester Central School in 1967 and shortly after joined the Marine Corps. After his military service, he built a home and started a family. He raised his children Jennifer (Alex) Giacomelli, Walter (Nicole) Schliermann, and Adam Schliermann and made many good old country memories.
Walter went on to build two antique stock cars and enjoyed the racing circuit with the Midstate Antique Stock Car Club. He also loved snowmobiling and was a member of the Decatur Nite Rider's. Walter coached his son's little league and soccer teams, taught the snowmobile safety course and appreciated a good stamp collection. He enjoyed good times with lifelong friends and will always be remembered as a prankster.
As he would make clear, he was the #1 son, followed by Eric Schlierman, Kurt (Lori) Schlierman, Kay Guernsey (Tim McLean), Fay (Dan) Navritil, and Jene Schlierman. He was also the #1 Grandpa to his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas and Isabella Giacomelli, Olivia, Hannah, and Easton Schliermann, as well as Brody and Bentin Schliermann. Along with his siblings, children, and grandchildren, Walter is also survived by close cousins Joyce Ochocki, Carol Hutt Morris, the Patterson family and many nieces and nephews. Walter was truly one of a kind and loved by all who knew him. He will forever be missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at noon at the East Worcester Fish and Game Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
