Walter Michael Soha MD

Walter Michael Soha, M.D. died peacefully on 2/15/25 surrounded by family and friends. He was the oldest of 5 brothers (Fr.Rod, Mark, Chris, and Gregg). His life was 100% dedicated to God, family and country. A Naval Academy Grad, he also completed Nuclear Power School under Adm. Rickover and served on fast attack nuclear subs-the USS Tunny, Ray and Flasher during the Cold War Era. After his career in the Navy, he discerned a vocation in medicine and graduated from the University of Miami. In med school, he dated his future wife of 40 years, Mary, because he needed a pickup truck to help the Missionaries of Charity. He was double-boarded in medicine and anesthesiology and practiced in the St. Vincent's Health Care System in Jacksonville, Florida. Here he raised his 6 sons and continued to add 4 more sons over the years. He was a baseball coach and one of the founders of the Catholic Flag Football League. He emphasized the ABC's- Attitude +Basics= Champion. His home was always open to any and all. After retirement from medicine, He applied his talents to growing in his faith. His new-found joy was preparing for becoming a deacon in the Church.
Surrounding him with prayer is his wife, Mary, sons Walter Michael(Erica), Ray, Chris(Erica Jasmine),George (Kaleigh), Joe (Becca), David(Megan),Josh(Lindsey),Tommie, Josh(Andrea) and Fr. Martin Ibeh, 5 grandchildren and countless extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday February 19, 2025, 5:00pm - 7:00pm with a Catholic Prayer service starting at 6:00pm at Craig Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:00am on Thursday February 20, 2025, at Cathedral-Basilica of St Augustine. Graveside services with military honors will be held 2:00pm Thursday at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL
