Walter Stretch Obituary
Walter was born and raised in the South Bronx. He is the son of George and Anna (Jackson) Stretch. He moved to Upstate New York in 1983. Walter was a hard worker and held various jobs over the years. These jobs included being a door man in NYC and later shifting his focus to auto body repair and later as a custodian at SUNY Oneonta College.
Walter enjoyed watching westerns, Grand Ole Opry, and eating various sweet treats. He was known for his straight-forward personality and his ability to find humor in almost any situation.
Walter is survived by his wife, Deborah (Lindberg) Stretch, his three sons, John (Tabitha) Henson, Joseph (Tanya) Henson, Walter Stretch Jr., his daughter, Anna (Kevin) Gallagher, his brother Frank Stretch, and his sister, Lila Zydor. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Eliana, Genevieve, Sebastian, Jaxson, Layne, and Adara. Walter was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, George, Raymond, and Ronald.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley, NY 13320 from 11 am-1 pm with a funeral service to follow immediately at 1 pm. The service will be followed with a reception and time of remembrance from 2 pm-4 pm at the Tryon Inn located at 124 Main Street, Cherry Valley, NY. Burial will take place at a later time.
