Walter Urbanski Obituary

Walter J. Urbanski
Walter J. Urbanski, 63, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2025. Walt, also known as "Deco", enjoyed helping people and being a caring friend. Born in New Haven, CT, on January 27, 1962, Walter was the youngest child of the late John F. Urbanski (1998) and the late Edna F. Romuk Urbanski (2023). In his mother's later years, Walt was helpful in doing yard work and repairs around her house. From a very young age, he enjoyed learning how to play sports from his dad. He was a brother to Felicia M. Urbanski (Larry Squire) of Ontario, Canada, John F. Urbanski and Ludwik S. Urbanski, of Hamden, CT. Walt grew up in North Haven and attended North Haven High School. As a child, he was active and fun-loving, enjoying the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing, skiing and tobogganing. He loved playing sports, especially basketball, and did some coaching. As the youngest in the family, he was always trying to "keep up with the big boys". He enjoyed socializing with friends and watching sports on television.
In his adult life he worked for a time in the trucking industry, driving tractor trailers. More recently, Walt did all sorts of yard work and home repairs for people, especially his neighbors at Yalesville Square. He loved rock music and played his bass guitar for a time in local band. His presence will be deeply missed, but his love, joy, and laughter will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. The family would like to acknowledge the doctors, nurses, social workers, medics and police officers who treated Walter with kindness, patience and compassion. All are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, December 17, at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Dunbar United Church of Christ, 767 Benham St., Hamden, CT, at the corner of Dunbar Hill Road. The Rev. George Manukas will be presiding, and local pianist Fred Russomando will provide music. A reception at the church will be followed by the interment at All Saints' Cemetery, in North Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's memory to Master's Manna, PO Box 4032, Wallingford, CT 06492, also at https://www.mastersmanna.org/donate ; or to New Opportunities (Social Service Programs), 22 Church Street, Meriden, CT 06451, also at https://newoppinc.org/Donate . www.northhavenfuneral.com
