Walter Zumbrunn Obituary
Walter Duane Zumbrunn (Duane), the second of 4 sons of Walter John and Dorothy Fay (Wilcox) Zumbrunn passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024 at the age of 96.
Born December 19, 1927 at Point Place, OH, Duane spent his earlier years in and around Toledo, OH graduating from Burnham High School (1945) in Sylvania, OH. In 1946, Duane joined and served in the U.S. Army. The Army benefits provided his opportunity to attend and graduate from Bowling Green State University in 1951 with a Degree in Journalism.
Beginning his lengthy career as a reporter/editor of Ashtabula (Ohio) Star Beacon 1951-60, he completed his career as the Publications Manager and Media Relations Manager for the Ohio Power Company, Canton, OH from 1965-92. Duane (as known by most) and his wife Frances retired to The Plantation Senior Community in Leesburg, Florida in July of 1992.
Duane met Frances Dellerba while working at the Star Beacon. They married on April 19, 1952 and remained a loving couple for the next 72 years! Duane was always very proud of the family he and Frances raised. That family grew from 5 children to 7 grandchildren to currently 9 great grandchildren!
Duane remained unwaveringly faithful to his family and all of his friends, always willing to give a helping hand or piece of advice!
He was preceded in death by his Father Walter J. Zumbrunn, Mother Dorothy (Wilcox) Zumbrunn, and Brothers Clayton "Butch" Zumbrunn and Robert "Bob" Zumbrunn. Duane (aka Walter, Whitey, Bill, Zummy, and Mr. Z) is survived by Wife Frances (Dellerba) Zumbrunn,
