Wanda Marie Cook Barnes was born April 11, 1937, to Elbert Rue Cook and Ruthie Alberta Lutz Cook in Avondale, Arizona. She returned to her Heavenly Father on February 22, 2023. She had an unwavering Christian faith. Most of her life was spent in Missouri. She retired from Nevada Rehabilitation Center in Nevada, Missouri and lived in Republic, Missouri from 1999 until the time of her passing.
Wanda had five sons from a former marriage: Roger Gregg, Paul Gregg, Gary Gregg, Michael Gregg and Joel Gregg. She loved them dearly and sacrificed whatever it took to raise them as a single mother.
Wanda was very talented. She enjoyed home life and working with her hands in her vegetable garden and flower garden. Ashe loved crafts, sewing, and quilting and she enjoyed outings with her sisters, especially shopping at flea markets.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father and mother; one brother, Jerald Norman Cook; five sisters, Velma Shropshire, Joyce Young, Loris Cook, Dorene Stewart, and Ora Lee Greenstreet; two sons, Paul Gregg and Gary Gregg; and husband Horace Wayne Barnes.
She is survived by three sons: Roger Gregg and wife Carla of Derby, Kansas, Michael Gregg of Republic, Missouri, Joel Gregg, of Kimberling City, Missouri; one sister, Martha Jean Weeks of Luling, Texas and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed. We release her to the arms of Jesus; her work on earth is done.
A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 2pm at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Lee Miller officiating.
