James Clyde "JC" Holmes, 74, of Republic, Missouri, passed away October 9, 2025.
Born February 11, 1951, JC grew up in Laurens, South Carolina and moved to Miami, Oklahoma, in 1966. He built a life defined by coaching with heart, teaching with patience and living with steady, good-humored ease.
JC made his home in Republic, MO, where he was a devoted father who cherished every moment with his children, a loyal brother and loving son, and a friend who showed up no matter what. He spent years on the ballfield and in the classroom helping young people grow their skills and find their confidence. His voice could command a diamond, but it was his heart, humor and unshakable belief in people that made him unforgettable. Off the field, JC taught Automotive Technology in Picher, Oklahoma and later at Ozarks Technical Community College, taking pride in seeing students master skills that opened doors. He also enjoyed restoring and racing a 1965 Mustang Fastback, channeling the same focus and pride in workmanship that he brought to his classroom and teams. Among the many useful gifts he gave his children, he also passed along a love of cheesy, groan-worthy dad jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Holmes and Sarah R. (Nelson) Holmes. He is survived by his brother, Keith Holmes; his children, Blu Holmes, Gabe Holmes, Jake Burnett, Wesley Holmes and Jamie Hofmeister; his daughter-in-law, Crystal Benton Burnett and son-in-law, Kevin Hofmeister; his grandchildren, Angel Serles, Tatum, Blu Jr., Kayleigh, Grayson and Ryan Holmes, and Sawyer James Burnett; his nieces, Jennifer Morgan and Christa Vaughn; and a wide circle of former players, colleagues and friends who will carry his lessons forward.
Though he may have rounded third and headed home, JC's legacy will continue to guide and inspire those lucky enough to have known him. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Meadors Funeral Home, 314 N Main St, Republic, MO. Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hood United Methodist Church, 139 N Walnut Ave, Republic, MO. The interment of ashes will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Republic. Memories and condolences may be shared at Meadors Funeral Home.
