Ms. Wanda Bitner, age 94 of Middletown, DE and formerly of Coatesville, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 9, 2025,
Born in Wolyn, town of Osaka Pilsudskiego region of Poland; daughter of Rozalia Badoszewka and Florian Krzystofiak, she and her family were greatly affected by the World War II invasion of Poland. Her family was separated, some went into hiding while others were sent to Soviet Gulag, work camps. Wanda served in the Polish Army: while her daughter served in the United States Army and Air Force. In Post World War II and through peace agreements, her family like many Polish refugees of war, were relocated several times before arriving in America. Wanda and Iwona emigrated to Hartford, Connecticut in 1963, and were reunited with Wanda's family.
Prior to retirement, Wanda worked in the food manufacturing facility of Pepperidge Farms later a division of Campbell Soups for over 20 years.
Wanda enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, dancing, cooking, the beach and her family.
In addition to her late parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her three siblings. She is survived by her only daughter, Iwona Bitner; her four grandchildren: Christos Tarabicos, Nina Tarabicos-Dowd and son-in-law Mickey Dowd, Peter Tarabicos, and Nikolaos Tarabicos; and her three great grandchildren, Eliana Dowd, Stefanos Dowd, and Cayden Dowd; and her brother, Ryszard Krzystofiak.
Services have been entrusted into the care of Williams Funeral Home and Burial Servics. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
