On Monday, April 1, 2024, Wanda Louise Broom, loving mother and granny to many, passed away at age ninety-two in her home of sixty-four years in Buna, Texas. Her love of God, family, home, and community was the driving force for her years of service to them.
Granny, as she was called by everyone, was best known for her skills in the kitchen and her love for all. School rolls, chicken 'n dumplings, banana pudding, and hamburgers were among her most requested meals, but friends and family enjoyed everything that she cooked for them. She always enjoyed baking a birthday cake or pie for family members on their special day, and we all looked forward to our treats. She had a generous spirit and a heart for helping others.
Wanda was born on December 3, 1931, in Hope, Arkansas to Alton and Annie Mae Buice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex L. Broom, son, Rusty Broom, granddaughter, Kay Saunders, and great grandson, James Johnson.
She is survived by her children, Rex E. Broom & Cat Moorehead of Newark, Ohio, Donald E. Broom & Lynn of Buna, Judy Saunders of Buna, Brenda Broom & Bruce Hendrix of Crosby; daughter-in-law, Cindy Broom; grandchildren, Sonia Broom, Kristi Whipps, Perry Saunders, Donald "Bubba" Broom, Tammie Dees, Joey Broom, Dianna Saunders, Tosha Johnson, Bonnie Altenreid, Crystal Saunders, Linsi Broom Karumbaya, Melanie Barnard, Nicole Noeske, Lane Sowell, Lauren Perez, and Zach Rogers; thirty-two great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday, April 5, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with a 2:00 pm graveside at Stryker Cemetery in Corrigan. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the funeral home.
