Wanda Sue Hatcher
Sue Hatcher, age 92, a resident of Selma for 77 years, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 in Gallatin, Tennessee. She was a mother, aunt, nana, and great-grandmother.
Born Wanda Sue Owen in north Texas, her family moved to California as a young girl during the Dust Bowl era, working and farming their way west. As a teenager, she attended Selma High School, and played the flute in the school band. She married Alvin Hatcher in 1948. They welcomed their daughters, Pamela in 1963, and Michelle in 1966. Sue and Al Hatcher lead a social life full of friends and family. In her younger years, she and Al enjoyed water skiing at Shaver Lake, or going to Pismo to spend time on the dunes. Always the host, she enjoyed a house full of family where she often cooked and baked. Everyone had a favorite recipe from Sue. She worked as a phlebotomist at the Fowler Hospital, and later the Selma Hospital when it was newly opened. As a mother, she kept her children active in social groups, whether it was girl scouts or sports. Later in life, Sue took up golf and was involved in the Selma Women's golf group. She stayed active, laughed often, and gave so much of herself to her friends and family.
Sue is survived by her two daughters Pamela (Peter) Mazziliano, and Michelle Hatcher; two grand-daughters Mindi Short and Tara Mazziliano, and two great-grandsons Cooper and Oliver Smith. She will be greatly missed.
