Michael Ray Hatcher

Michael Ray Hatcher, born on July 23, 1947, in Beckley, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in Powhatan, Virginia.

Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman from a young age. His love for nature was instilled by his father, Jesse, and shared with his brothers, Mark and Roger. This passion led to many lifelong friendships and adventures.

Professionally, Mike was a talented photographer and small business owner. His dedication to his craft and community was evident through his active involvement with Rotary International, where he devoted countless hours of service.

Mike was also an enthusiastic traveler. His journey began with a tour of duty during the Vietnam War, which took him from the isles of Japan to the shores of Hawaii. This passion for exploration continued throughout his life, especially during semi-retirement, when he and Roberta traveled extensively across the American Southwest.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Ann Hatcher; his parents, Jesse and Laura Hatcher; his brother, Mark Hatcher; and Susan "Niki" Hatcher, mother of his daughter, Heather.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Hatcher Dunn; his brother, Roger Hatcher; nephews, Paul and Will Hatcher and Jay McPherson; nieces, Laura Allen and Michelle McPherson; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his companion, Edwina Shore.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 28th, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bliley's-Chippenham Funeral Home, located at 6900 Hull Street Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Mike's memory.

Mike will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for the outdoors.
