Wanda Starr Patterson, age 89 of Athens, went to be with her heavenly father Monday, Dec. 23, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late George, Sr. and Willie Underdown Starr. She was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church, and an avid sports fan. She was an excellent baker and loved bowling. She was employed by Alfred's, A&P and Earl's supermarket, She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ray Starr, Frances Monroe, Agatha Ray, and Betty Wright.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years H.L. Patterson of Athens; three sons, Steve Patterson (Debbie) of Athens, Phil Patterson (Pam) of Ten Mile, Ricky Patterson (Tameca) of Mocksville, N.C,; grandchildren, Tyler Patterson(Margaret) Jennifer Patterson (Shea), Andrew Patterson (Nikki) and,Sarah Wright (Trevor); great-grandchildren, Delaney, Harlyn Drew, Ava, and Draper; one brother, George Starr (Joyce) ; three sisters, Faye Morris (Eddie), Kaye Kyker, and Glenda Hall.
Funeral services will be 7 pm Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Scallions officiating. The graveside will be 11 am Friday at McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and spouses. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday before the service at the church.
