Wanda Maxine Rickabus, age 90 died January 23, 2025, at McLaren Northern Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. Wanda was born on November 5, 1934, in Ferndale, Michigan, the daughter of the late Pearl and Pearl Smith.
A proud graduate of Ferndale High School, Class of 1952, Wanda's educational journey laid the groundwork for what would become a remarkable career. After marrying Daniel, the couple planted their roots in Royal Oak, Michigan, and later in Sterling Heights, Michigan, creating a warm and inviting home for their daughter Denise.
Wanda's professional life was marked by dedication and service. She began her career at Lehman & Skinner Real Estate in Royal Oak as an administrator. Her hunger for knowledge and growth led her to obtain an insurance license, after which she joined Johnny Richmond Insurance. There, she excelled as an insurance agent for four decades, earning the respect and trust of countless clients and colleagues.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Wanda was the epitome of a devoted wife and mother. She supported her daughter Denise's passion for dance, becoming a "dance mom" and ensuring Denise had the opportunity to attend dance lessons and recitals for over 13 years. Wanda's role did not go unnoticed, as she gracefully balanced work and family life with unwavering support and encouragement.
Travel and collecting brought additional joy to Wanda's life. Alongside her husband Dan, she explored the world, visiting breathtaking destinations such as Alaska, Switzerland, Hawaii, and many more. Her love for Mickey Mouse was reflected in her extensive collection, a hobby that brought her immense happiness. Wanda also cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as antiquing with Dan and engaging in friendly card games with friends.
Wanda also had a giving heart volunteering her time at Otsego Memorial Hospital, the Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity and many others.
Wanda was the beloved wife of Daniel Rickabus and the cherished mother of Denise Rickabus, who, together with her husband Paul Michael Utley, brought much joy to Wanda's life. Although she was predeceased by her parents, her legacy continues through her immediate family and a host of extended family members and friends who were fortunate to experience her love and guidance.
Mrs. Rickabus will lie in-state Thursday January 30th at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Michigan. The family will receive friends and guests beginning at 10 am until the time of the Mass of the Christian Burial beginning at 11 am. Officiating the Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Philibus.
