Wanda L. Shively, age 89, of Marion, IL passed away at 4:17 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 in Deaconess Illinois Medical Center of Marion, IL.
She was born on July 9, 1935 in Herrin, IL the daughter of Robert Lee and Emma Wilhelmina (Rosenberger) Snyder.
Wanda was united in marriage to Moreton Shively on November 16, 1956 in Marion, IL and together they shared over 59 years of marriage until his death on December 9, 2015.
Early in her working career during the 1960's, she worked for General Telephone Company of Marion for about 10 years. The family moved to Shawneetown, IL and after her children were older, she worked for the Loretta Pharmacy in Shawneetown for about 10 years. In 1993, the family moved back to Marion. She remained at home seeing to the needs of her family and managing her home.
She was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church of Marion, IL.
In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting with her many friends and talking on the phone, cooking, dancing at the Boulevard Street Center and playing card games and board games.
She loved her family and enjoyed hearing about all the activities going on in their lives. The many memories that have been created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by two daughters, Leann Collins and husband, Doyle, of Marion, IL and Lisa Bates of Troutman, NC; three grandchildren, Kate Edgar and husband, Ryan, of Collinsville, IL, Kaylee Baldwin and husband, Ben, of Charlotte, NC and Bryan Bates and wife, Amanda, of Milton Freewater, OR; three great-grandchildren, Mia Baldwin, Frankie Baldwin and Kallum Bates; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Maurice Shively and wife, Lucie, of Watersmeet, MI and Richard Shively of Marion, IL; and other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, George Snyder; and two sisters, Geraldine Throgmorton and Wilma Barwick.
The family would like to thank Bro. Bob McKnight for his loyal and continual friendship and the staff at Parkway Estates and Hawthorne Inn for their kind and loving care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
A time of visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Following the time of visitation, the funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Bob McKnight presiding.
Interment will follow next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion, IL.
For those who prefer, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to either or both "Finding Forever Animal Rescue" and/or "American Cancer Society." Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
