Waneta R. Schummer, age 96, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Waneta was born on February 13, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan where she was raised alongside her brother, Walter. After graduating from Saginaw High School, Waneta relocated to Ann Arbor where she obtained a job in the payroll department for Hydramatic in Ypsilanti where she remained for several years.
She raised her four children, Judy, Lynda, Daniel, and Keith, in Ann Arbor. Waneta was a proud mother and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had several fond memories of family trips across the United States and was the best cheerleader rooting for Judy, Lynda, and Christina during local softball games.
Waneta was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Twietmeyer; her son, Keith Schummer, and her brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Jean Twietmeyer.
Waneta will be missed by her children, Judy Schummer, Lynda (Gary) Moore, and Daniel (Elizabeth Muganzi) Schummer and her four grandchildren, Christina (Kevin) Morawski, Jason and Jeffrey Moore, and Derek Schummer. Waneta will also be missed by her fourteen great-grandchildren: Tyler, Anthony, Grace, Olivia, and Ethan Morawski, Nathan, Natalie, Noah, Nicole, Nadia, Nolan, and Nadine Moore, and Hayden and Isaiah Schummer; as well as her three grand-dogs, Buddy, Bella, and Beau.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Nie Family Funeral Homes, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, October 26, 2023, with visitation at 11:30 am and Mass at 12:30 pm St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor. Burial will follow at Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery of Ann Arbor.
