Wayland “Cale” Rogers, 61, of Amarillo, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Memorial services will be at Arden Road Baptist Church on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., with Ken Holmes officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Cale was born on April 14, 1964, in Amarillo, Texas to Wayland and Barbara Rogers. He grew up in Amarillo and attended Belmar Elementary School, Crockett Jr. High, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1982. He continued his education at TSTI, graduating in 1984 with an Associates degree in electronics. After graduation, he moved to Dallas and worked in home security. He later returned to Amarillo and opened Rogers Decorating with his father.
During this time, Cale began bodybuilding, where he discovered the value of commitment and the importance of giving his all to everything he pursued. It was also during this season that he placed his trust in Jesus as his Savior, and committed to that with the same wholehearted dedication.
He met his wife, Susan Pringle, at Bell Avenue Baptist Church, and they were married on August 3, 1991. They welcomed their first daughter, Shannon, in 1995, followed by their second daughter, Sonya, in 1999.
Cale worked at Suddenlink for the majority of his career. After early retirement, he became a resident assistant at Park Place Towers. Both residents and staff appreciated his unwavering commitment and his 'above and beyond' attitude.
Cale loved Jesus. He wanted everyone he met to know how they could be saved and go to Heaven. With 100% dedication, he spent time street preaching, handing out tracts, witnessing at the fair, and much more. He went above and beyond using unconventional ways to try and reach as many people as possible. He was fully committed to each endeavor, no matter what anyone thought.
He loved his family and was fully committed to them as well. He had a good sense of humor and loved a good “dad” joke. He was very involved in every stage of his daughters’ lives, from playing with Barbie dolls to walking them down the aisle. His 33-year marriage to Susan was another example of his unwavering commitment. “Papa” was one of his favorite titles, and he enjoyed playing with his grandson, Mason.
Cale volunteered at the Sunset Art Center, where he inspired many to grow as artists. His intricate exhibit there stands as a lasting tribute to his creativity and dedication. His passion lives on through his artwork, with pieces hung in the Cerulean Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
Cale is survived by his wife, Susan Rogers, and his children, Shannon Jones and husband Scott Jones, and Sonya Hayward and husband Casey Hayward. He has one grandson, Mason Jones. He is also survived by his sister Karen Lee Gray and husband Roy Gray.
