Wayland Dewaun Wheeler, also known as "Bubba," was born on December 22, 1964, to Joyce Wheeler and Alfredie Scott, Sr. in La Grange, Texas. Wayland departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2025, after a brief illness. He attended school in the La Grange Independent School District. Wayland accepted Christ as His Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church, where his membership remained throughout his life. When Wayland visited his hometown, he still loved hearing a fiery word from Pastor Jones because he often commented "He can r-e-a-l-l-y Preach!"
Wayland married Michelle Davis and to this union no children were born; however, Wayland was a very present father to Michelle's three young children, Shimeka Johnson, Pamela Davis and Charles Davis, and to their God-daughter, Andraneai Kanada.
Wayland began his work career at an Exxon gas station as a young teenager; his exposure there led him to become a skilled mechanic with the capabilities of working on any make and model vehicle that was placed in front of him. Later, he began to provide security at the Mercardo chain stores, working with owners Zack Momin, Sadru bhai Momin, Barkat Ali, and Akber Ali. Over time, their professional relationships moved from employers and employee to brothers. They shared mutual love and respect for one another and Wayland always had a huge, affectionate smile on his face when he talked about the fishing trips that they shared together!
Anyone who had the great pleasure of meeting Wayland knew the great love he had for his family and the special bond he shared with his sisters. He was more than their brother but also their protector. He was such a Giver; he would gladly give his last to anyone. He was a GOOD brother and a very kind person and his deep connection to his sisters was evident until the day God called him home. Wayland enjoyed his life to the fullest and cherished all the people in his life. He also enjoyed playing dominoes, repairing vehicles, being a security guard, drinking his favorite drink, eating meals prepared by his sister Jan and cruising with his sister Vecie.
Wayland is proceeded in death by his parents, Joyce Wheeler and Alfredie Scott, Sr., maternal and paternal grandparents and a host of aunts and uncles. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife Michelle Wheeler, children Shimeka Johnson, Pamela Davis (Oscar), one son Charles Davis (Susan), God-daughter Andraneai Kanada; seven sisters: Jan Dockery Willet (John), Arvecie Hunt, Tammy Brown, Paula Young (Kevin), Gale East, Debra Steward (Bennie), Jennifer McGraw (Charles); two brothers: Alfreddie Scott II (Lupe), Allen Scott (Estella); two Uncles: Isiah Caldwell, Izae East; four Aunts: Thelma Davis, Lovie Lee Scott, Diane East and Deloris Carr; 15.5 grandchildren: Jaylon Fenix, Kianna Fenix, Da'Mari Duhon, Da'Kari Duhon, Taylor Macedo, Prince Robert Macedo, Jasmine Macedo, Charles Davis, Jr., De'Mario Davis, Joshua Davis, Isaiah Davis, Zachary Dewaun Davis, Davion Madison, Kali Madison, Aidan Madison, baby Khazan DeWaun Caldwell and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends from near and afar.
