Waymon "WT" Terry, 87, of Weatherford, passed away February 25, 2026. Born August 16, 1938, to Lev and Mamie Terry, Waymon was a lifelong resident of Weatherford and a 1956 graduate of Weatherford High School. He was saved and baptized at North Side Baptist Church. He attended Weatherford College, served briefly in the U.S. Marine Corps, and worked for General Dynamics and the White Settlement school district. He spent most of his career at the Safeway and Level's grocery stores and in retirement, he worked at Brookshire’s.
Waymon was known for his sacrificial love for his family, his unmistakable laugh, and the cheerful spirit he carried into every room. He enjoyed playing golf, his Boston Terrier, Buster, and giving each of his grandchildren a nickname uniquely their own. He loved summer vacations, especially long road trips, gardening, and Clint Eastwood and John Wayne movies. He had little patience for shoplifters and was unafraid to chase them down, including an armed bandit that was later written about in the Fort Worth newspaper.
On January 27, 1961, he and Claudette Taylor secretly went to Mineral Wells to elope, only to come back to Weatherford and live separately for a short period of time until they finally told the news of their marriage to her parents. Together, they had two daughters, and Waymon sacrificed advancements in his career so that his family could remain rooted in Weatherford but occasionally went around Texas and even to Wichita Falls and California with Safeway. After 42 years of marriage, Claudette preceded him in death in 2003. In 2004, he married Jane (Ballard) Guay.
Waymon was preceded in death by his brother, Norvall Terry; and his sister, Virginia Wallace.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Terry of Weatherford; his daughters, Melissa McKeown and her husband, Tim, of Weatherford, and Michele Campbell Wright of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Terrynce Caleb McKeown and his wife, Jaime; Marshall McKeown and his wife, Samantha; Hannah Jaeschke and her husband, Tristan; Rachel Salters and her husband, Daniel; Kirsten Campbell; Taylor Wright; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous friends and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at North Side Baptist Church Chapel, 910 North Main.
