Wayne R. Ash passed away December 19, 2022, in
Sequim, Washington from natural causes at the age of 85. He was born April 21, 1937, to LeRoy Ash and Letha Wright. He was the second son of five children. Wayne was raised in Orem and Pleasant Grove Utah. He was senior class president of his high school where he graduated in 1955.
Wayne was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved his church responsibilities. He lived his life serving others.
Wayne married Annella Goulding in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple. Together they had six children: Sharlene (Bill) McDearman, Ronald (Peggy) Ash, Kevin Ash, Gina (Matthew) Cameron, Nathan (Heather) Ash, Jennifer (Jeff) Watts, 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. They later divorced.
He then married Judy Stratton in the Provo Utah Temple and gained three more children: Julie (Richard) Clark, Jay Hayes, and late Jennifer Martin, 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Judy later passed away in 2008.
Wayne married Carol Christensen Steed in Reno Nevada and gained four more children: Jenny McPhee, Sara (John) Lafkas, Briana (Marlon) Steed-Gonzalez, Ashley (Christopher) Nixon, 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They made their home in
Sequim, Washington.
Wayne excelled in everything he tried and was a fantastic athlete. He held the discus, and pole vault record and still holds the shot-put record at Pleasant Grove High School. Wayne received a football scholarship to Brigham Young University. He graduated with a degree in sociology and later earning his MBA at Westminster College.
He learned hard work as a boy on Grandpa Wright's dairy farm. He worked for LeRoy Ash Chevron throughout high school and college. In 1962, he played for the Minnesota Vikings as their offensive guard. After a rookie year with the Vikings, he went back home to Utah to his wife and two kids. He later turned down a guaranteed contract with another NFL team deciding to stay home and work at Hercules instead of a probable long professional football career. He moved on to work at Ashrock Ready Mix with his brother Lloyd for a time. He used his financial skills working for the Utah Department of Transportation until he retired.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard and Lloyd, wives Annella and Judy, and stepdaughter Jennifer Martin.
A viewing will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 from 9:30 - 10:30 am in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East,
