Wayne Bartelt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
Wayne Robert Bartelt, age 85, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, in Kiel, Wisconsin. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Wayne lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.

Born on May 23, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Wayne was the son of the late Howard and Bernice Bartelt. He graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee in 1958. Shortly thereafter, he began a long and dedicated career as a heavy equipment operator with D.F. Tomasini Inc., proudly serving through the 139 Local Engineer Union. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, Wayne earned the respect of his colleagues throughout his years of service.

Wayne married Mary Bartelt, with whom he shared many decades of love and companionship. Together they raised three sons: Darrell Bartelt, Dennis Bartelt, and David Bartelt. Though David preceded him in death, Wayne's legacy continues through his surviving children and their families.

A proud grandfather to Nicole Bartelt, Merissa Zinda (Adam Zinda), Zach Bartelt, Gavin Bartelt, , and Monique Tovar (Jose Tovar), Dana Bartelt, Nathaile and Paige Bartelt, Raeann and Gage Rivera-Kleb-and great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren-Wayne found immense joy in watching his family grow across generations.

After retiring from his career in construction and engineering operations, Wayne spent his later years in Florence, Wisconsin. There, he embraced the peace of the Northwoods while continuing to enjoy the activities that brought him happiness throughout his life. An avid outdoorsman and sportsman at heart, Wayne loved hunting-especially deer-fishing on quiet lakeshores, camping under the stars with family or friends, and boating during warm summer days.

He was also known for his passion for dancing-a graceful partner on any dance floor. He also loved cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers every football season. A man of many talents and interests, Wayne was often described as a jack of all trades. Whether fixing something around the house or lending a hand to others in need of practical help or advice, he approached every task with patience and skill.

Wayne's gentle demeanor earned him the affectionate title of "gentle giant." Mild-mannered yet strong in spirit and conviction, he was deeply forgiving and always ready with a kind word. His faith as a Lutheran guided him throughout life's challenges and triumphs alike. He was also a proud member of the Moose organization.
