Wayne Beddow Obituary

Wayne Beddow

February 28, 1938 - January 15, 2026

Wayne Frederick Beddow passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at The Laurels of Charlottesville after a short illness. Wayne was born on February 28, 1938, in Charlottesville, Va., to Lucian and Nora Beddow.

Wayne lived his whole life in the Charlottesville area and grew up in Belmont, where he was one of the "Belmont Boys." He was a long-time employee and retired from A & P Grocery Store. During this time, he met and married his wife, Liz. They were married for almost 60 years before Liz passed away in 2024. Wayne and Liz were long time members of Hinton Avenue Methodist Church before joining Ivy Creek Methodist Church where Wayne was still a member.

Wayne has always had a love for music; he never stopped singing even as his health started deteriorating. In his younger years he was a member of a local band, Creeper and the Vidals, where he played the trombone. He also sang in the choir at both Hinton Avenue and Ivy Creek. Wayne was also very active in the Charlottesville Elks Club.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Liz Beddow; and his brother, Lucian E. Beddow, Jr. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Meadows; grandchildren, Cameron Hall (Sloane), Candice Hall, Chad Hall, Stacey Williamson (Nicholas), Arvin Dorman Jr. and Elizabeth Dorman; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by a special sister, Connie Jarman; and many loving nieces and nephews. Wayne also leaves behind his church family and many friends at The Laurels.

The family wants to thank everyone at The Laurels of Charlottesville for the love and care that they have given to Wayne over the last two years.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, with Pastor Gil Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Ivy Creek United Methodist Church, 674 Woodlands Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Condolences may be shared with the family at www.hillandwood.com.

Am very sorry to hear of his passing. We were some kin through his mother I believe and I remember his father selling newspapers downtown as a child. My family also attended Hinton Avenue and I remember hearing him sing in the church choir. Please accept my condolences for myself and family.

I met Wayne at my first real job when he introduced himself at the Stop and Shop downtown. I was in high school and worked part-time there. Over the years, we would run into each other from time to time, and then more often at the Elks Lodge.

Wayne was one of the nicest persons I ever met, treating everyone with grace and kindness. I will miss seeing him and know he will be missed by many others.

My sincere condolences to Wayne's family at this sad time.

Actually Wayne was in my band first !! The Saints were formed as the show band for the 1957 Senior Follies at Lane High School. Wayne was a terrific trombone player !! He was a great friend as well !! We did many musical gigs together !!!! I wish his family all the best as they respond to his loss !! I will miss him !!
