Wayne Leroy Jeffs, Veteran, husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022 at age 87 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Picabo, Idaho September 29, 1934, the son of Leonard and Loretta Jeffs. Wayne grew up in Mount Pleasant, Utah and lived the last 48 years of his life in Clinton, Utah. Wayne met the true and lasting love of his life, Carolyn Bosworth, at a veteran's dance in Layton, UT. They were married on August 4, 1971 in Logan, Utah. They recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2021.
Wayne is survived by his two sons, Scott L. (Micki) Jeffs, of Chandler, AZ and Steven L. (Meagan) Jeffs of Kaysville, UT. He also has two stepsons by marriage with Carolyn, Ronald L. (Debbie) Chesley of Henderson, NV and Rodger B. (Julie) Chesley of Stockton, CA. He has nine grandkids, Alex, Mara, Rylee (Jeffs) and Robert, Amber, Nichole, Brandi, Heather, and Candace (Chesley). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Eugene, Carley, David, Lynn and his sister, Wanda.
Wayne lived an admirably full life and was always an active man. He and his brothers shared a love of fixing up cars and hunting. His first job was with Ogden Arsenal. Together with his brother Carley, he joined the Navy in 1954 where he served his country with honor during the Vietnam War years primarily aboard the USS Jason until 1962. After the Navy he worked at various jobs across several states including typewriter repair and forklift driver at the Ogden Defense Depot, until he came to work at Hill Air Force Base, where for over 20 years, he was an Avionics Electrician fixing up fighter aircraft. He was a proud member of the Utah Civil Air Patrol, along with his best friend Harold Steves, assisting with search and rescue operations.
He joined the National Campers and Hikers Association, which brought his kids many fond, happy camping memories in the Camping Critters chapter. He joined the Toastmasters to improve himself and did give some pretty funny speeches! He was also a Union Stewart at HAFB to advocate workplace legal matters on behalf of his fellow employees.
He retired from HAFB in 1992, but he could never sit still. He immediately started his own business, ARECO, where he continued to work as an appliance repairman. Later he changed it to a watch and clock repair business which was a skill he was proud of and that his dad had taught him growing up.
Wayne will be remembered for being reliable, detail-oriented, eccentric, outspoken, and loyal. He was a true patriot with an independent spirit and was also sensitive and charitable. He was there to help you if you needed him and had a big heart. He will be dearly missed!
A memorial in Wayne's honor will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 at 4 p.m. at Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Services entrusted to Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.
