Merritt Wayne Paice, 72, passed away on July 31, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV. Wayne was born on November 30, 1951 in Ely, NV to Merritt Tillman and Helen Mary Morris Paice. Wayne grew up in Lund, NV, graduating in a class of under twenty. He married his high school sweetheart, and next-door neighbor, Lorrie Reid on July 28, 1972 in Lund, NV. They were later sealed in the St. George, UT Temple on July 29, 1978. Wayne was a hard and dedicated worker. He worked on a dairy farm and ranch, the mines, and for the highway department. He later worked as a welder until he had a terrible accident where he was burned. During his healing, he was determined to provide for his family, so he started taking classes. He graduated with an Associate's degree from Dixie State College, then his Batchelor's degree from Utah State University in Landscape Architecture. Even though he was told he would never write again, he developed and mapped out parks for Clark County Parks and Recreation for several years before working for Overton Power as a CAD Technician.
Wayne loved basketball, and he loved being in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, camping, and just being in the mountains. He loved watching Westerns, and tried his best to pass that love onto his grandkids. He was an avid reader. He always had a well-worn novel by Louis L'amour nearby. He gave golf a good try. He was laid back and was very patient. He had a great sense of humor, and he was kind and forgiving.
Wayne is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Lorrie Paice; his children, Joey (Alan) Nish, Kaycee Paice, Shawn (Rachel) Paice, and Caleb Paice; his ten grandchildren, Augie, Evan, Kelsey (Brandon Welcher), Derek (Mazie), Cameron, A.J., Payton, Andy, Aspen, and Jack; he has one great-grandchild on the way; and his siblings, George (Marilyn) Paice, Gayleen (Dave) Ott, Karen (Don) Leonard, Keith (Paula) Paice, and Frank (Alyson) Paice. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merritt and Helen Paice.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Overton, NV Chapel, followed by a Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lund, NV Cemetery.
