Wayne Prescott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plainville Funeral Home - Plainville on Jan. 22, 2026.
Wayne Paul Prescott of Plainville, CT, passed away at home on January 18, 2026 from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 24, 1963 to William and Mabel (Rogers) Prescott and moved to Webster City, Iowa in 1964. He graduated from Webster City High School, where he played basketball and played in the marching band, Iowa State University, and Central Connecticut State University. Wayne began his career in business and finance until moving to CT in the early 1990's, where he earned teaching degrees to become a Business Education teacher and later a School Library Media Specialist. He taught for various school districts in the Northwest corner of the state.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Julie, of Plainville, CT, mother, Mabel, of Farmington, CT, sister Anne Prescott, MA, uncle and aunt H. Daniel Rogers, Jr. (Laura), NY, aunt Allison Rowe (Nick), NH, brother-in-law Sean, CT, sister-in-law Karin, IA, and cousins David Prescott (Diana) and family, Paul Prescott (Barry) and family, and Scott Prescott (Beth) and family, H. Daniel Rogers III (Jennifer) and family, and Brian Rogers (Julie) and family. He was preceded in death by his father, William Prescott, uncle W. Lloyd Prescott, and mother-in-law, Kathleen A. Tobin.
Wayne was passionate about cycling and was an active member of the Benidorm Bikes cycling club (EBCC) for many years as a regular ride leader and mentor. He was a well known figure in the New England Masters scene as a member of the Horst Engineering Cycling team. When he was not racing he liked to travel with his bike in tow and catch a stage of the Tour de France and other European events. Dedicated to personal fitness, he also ran the Boston Marathon and participated in numerous regional triathlons across the East coast. In addition to his passion for cycling, he was an avid Manchester City football fan.
In his retirement, Wayne continued to enjoy running, cycling, and traveling abroad and within the U.S. with Julie. Wayne was a community minded individual, volunteering for many years at local soup kitchens and for Habitat for Humanity. He began volunteering for the American Red Cross as an ambassador once his health no longer allowed him to be a blood donor. Most recently, he began serving as a volunteer tax preparer for the AARP Foundation.
Wayne's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Smilow Cancer Hospital of Yale New Haven for their support and care over the past two and a half years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21st from 10 am to 12 pm at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville, CT 06062. Prayers with words of remembrance will be shared at 12 pm at the funeral home. The burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.
