Obituary of Wayne Shell
Harold Wayne Shell, age 83, of Union, KY, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Boonespring Skilled Nursing Facility in Union, KY. He was born on December 22, 1940, to Roscoe and Gertrude Mullins Shell. Wayne and his wife, Barbara Jackson Shell (whom he often called Barbie Doll) grew up in church together, first began going together at the age of 13 when Wayne held her hand in church, and have been happily married for over 63 years.
Wayne was a retired Line Worker (after 32 years) and a former Vice President of the workers Union for Procter and Gamble. An instrumental member of Community Family Church, he served in many roles over the years including: Worship Team Singer, Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons, Small Group Teacher, Discipleship Leader, Executive Board Member, and Elder. He had a tremendous love for the Lord, and was a gifted singer with several recorded albums. Over the years, he was often called upon to travel and sing at other churches as well.
In addition to singing, Wayne enjoyed stock car racing and had driven actual stock cars at tracks 3 or 4 times including Kentucky Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway. His 1968 Chevy Chevelle was a prized possession and he also enjoyed traveling and designing model car kits. Most of all though, he loved spending time with his immediate family and church family and friends.
Besides his beloved wife, Barb Shell, he is survived by his children, Robby Shell (Renae), Rhonda Shepard (Terry), and Amanda Ellis (Mark); grandchildren, Tyler Shepard (Kelly), Trent Shepard, Ezekiel Shell, Hayden Shell, Brooklyn Shell, Rileigh Ellis, and Gavin Ellis; and great grandchildren, Dawson Shepard, Jackson Shepard, and Harrison Shepard. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Janice Lakes.
Visitation for Wayne will be Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m with his funeral service beginning at 7 p.m. at Community Family Church 11875 Taylor Mill Rd., Independence, KY 41051. A private committal service for Wayne will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Covington, KY. Memorials may be made to the Community Family Church Building Fund.
