Linda Sue (Susie) Shell was called to her eternal home on the 8th day of January, in the year of our Lord 2026, one day shy of her 75th birthday. She was born on January 9, 1951, to Clara D. Spencer and Roy Kenneth Shell in
Corpus Christi, TX.
A Corpus Christi native, Linda graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1969 and completed her secondary education at Digital Equipment Corporation (D.E.C.) Tech School in Massachusetts.
Linda was at the forefront of the computing and telecommunication industry in the 1970s, with a career spanning fifty years. Early in her career, she worked for D.E.C. in the
Dallas, TX office. Homesickness for South Texas eventually brought her home to Corpus, where she continued her career as IT/Communications manager at the Caller-Times newspaper for over 17 years. She then relocated to San Antonio to work in telecom and then the San Antonio Express News during the 90s before deciding once again to return to Corpus to be closer to family. She retired from Driscoll Children's Hospital in 2016, where she worked in IT/Communications for the final 13 years of her career.
While at Driscoll, Linda became involved with the Corpus Christi Amateur Radio Club, which was a hobby that she was passionate about. "W5LSS" was her call sign. She was instrumental in developing the Driscoll Children's Hospital North Pole Network which helped children connect with Santa on amateur radio.
Even in retirement, Linda never slowed down. She worked extensively on family genealogy, and other hobbies and projects such as scrapbooking and compiling cookbooks. Linda also maintained several websites, and she took on and moderated the Texas Back Roads Facebook group that has grown to 632.2K members under her direction. Linda's projects reflected the dedication she gave to everything she approached in life.
Linda was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, and an active member of the Eastern Star.
Linda loved her dogs, fishing, gardening, cooking, and throwing parties. She was famous for her "dysfunctional" family parties and "bloodbath" bingo at Christmas time. She would use any occasion to get family and friends together, i.e. football, birthday, and holidays with meals that could feed an army.
Linda's sense of humor and love of people will always be remembered. She had a big heart and would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. There is no other, and never will be another, like her. She was big sister, a blessing, and she will be missed.
Linda is preceded in death by father Roy Kenneth Shell, mother Clara D. Spencer, paternal grandmother and grandfather, Blanche Byrant Shell and Roy Hurdle Shell; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Addie Donnell Spencer and William (Bill) Culpepper Spencer.
She is survived by her son Kenneth James Shell, grandchildren, Kenneth Shell, Cooper Shell, and Tyler Shell, brother, David K. Shell, sister Patricia Ann Shell Vaughn along with several cousins, nephews, and nieces.
