Wayne Lewis Simmons, age 85, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. He was born on June 26, 1940, in Hampton, Tennessee, to the late James Simmons Sr. and Winnie Hartley Simmons. 

Wayne was a devoted husband, father, and papaw whose life was defined by love for his family, quiet strength, and steadfast faith. He took great pride in providing for those he loved and was deeply committed to his family throughout his life. 

Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Italy where he worked as a jet engine mechanic, contributing his skill and dedication in service to our nation. He retired from GE Aviation Evendale, Cincinnati, OH in 1998 after 33 years of service as a jet engine test cell supervisor.

 He is survived by his wife, Linda Simmons, and his children: Tracy Simmons Bulla (Brad Bulla) and her son Jordan Veach; Tony Simmons (Devon Simmons) and their children Brayden, Ashton, and Emalyn Simmons; Tara Simmons Cooper (Clark Cooper) and her children Braxton and Vivian Brazell; Tonya Minton Robinson (Randy Robinson) and their children Jake Robinson (Jessie Robinson) and Taylor Riley (Jake Riley), and great grandchildren Adaline and Ellie Riley. As well as, Many special nieces, nephews, extended family, and loved ones.

 He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Gail Simmons; his parents, James Simmons Sr. and Winnie Hartley Simmons; and his siblings, James Simmons Jr., Robert Simmons, Dewey Simmons, Dollie Mullins, Grace Langley, Betty Joe Glover, Patsy VanDruten, Ruth Simmons, and Kenneth Simmons. Wayne’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the generations of family who will continue to honor his memory with love and gratitude.

The Funeral service will be held at Poole Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Saturday December 27th with Tony Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Hiwassee Memorial Gardens with Military honors.
