J. Wayne Stanfill passed away on December 15, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Wayne was a lifelong educator and community leader. He served as principal of Scotts Hill High School and Riverside High School and later dedicated 20 years as the director of Decatur County Schools. At the time of his passing, he was a sitting member of the Decatur County Board of Education.

A devoted servant to his community, Wayne was a 58-year member of the Lions Club and served as treasurer of the Doe Creek Restoration Committee. He founded the Stanfill Dollar Saver in 1981, reflecting his work ethic and commitment to supporting local businesses.

Wayne was a dedicated Christian and a faithful member of Red Walnut Church of Christ, where he was serving as a deacon. For the past 15 years, he taught Bible classes at both Sardis Senior Citizens Center and Scotts Hill Senior Citizens Center, a role he deeply cherished. He loved serving others through teaching, leadership, and quiet acts of faith.

Above all, Wayne was a devoted husband and father to his surviving wife, Gail Stanfill and his son, Attorney Chadwick Wayne Stanfill, both whom he loved dearly.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Glenda Presley Moore; his nephew, Derek Moore (Beth) and their daughter, Cadie Moore; and other beloved family members including Clint Moore (Brittany), and their children, Charlotte and Samuel Moore; Clay Moore (Chelsea) and their son, Mac Moore.

Wayne was preceded in death by his loving parents, Riley and Gollen Stanfill; his in-laws, Cecil Presley and Tommie Presley, and his brother-in-law, Don E. Moore.

J. Wayne Stanfill will be remembered for his unwavering faith, lifelong dedication to education, and his deep love for family and community.
