It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Webster Anthony Cognevich, affectionately known as “Honey,” who left us on August 5, 2024, at the age of 86.
Born on May 25, 1938, in Buras, Louisiana, Webster was the third son of the late Rene and Clavena Cognevich. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Rene and Huey. Webster graduated from Buras High School and went on to serve his country proudly in the Navy.
Webster met his beloved wife of 62 years, Lucille (Lucy) Walker, and married on August 23, 1962. Webster and Lucy would spend the next 24 years raising their family of 3 girls in Buras, Louisiana. He proudly served 4 years in the Navy as a jet mechanic and boxer. After declining to become a professional boxer, Webster joined Gulf Oil, where he would work in their refinery for 12 years. Webster went on to tirelessly build his first oyster boat and began his seafood business in 1978. Upon retiring from the seafood industry he went on to become the office manager for Direct General insurance agency. After retiring, Webster and Lucy moved to Suwanee, Georgia to be near their three daughters and families.
Webster is remembered by all as a man of immense humor, wisdom, and love of country. Passionate about family, he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His love for wildlife, the seafood Industry and the water, coupled with his unwavering spirit, will forever be remembered.
Webster is survived by his devoted wife, Lucy; their three daughters: Tonya (Jules III) Lacoste of Suwanee, Benicia (Monte) Ammons of Cumming, and Cheryl (Glen Brown) Cognevich of Alpharetta, Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jarryd (Kristen) Dufour, Jules Lacoste IV, Olivia (Sean) O’Connor, Madison (fiancé Nathan Satterfield), Lacoste, Adam Ammons, and Abigail Ammons, and four great-grandchildren: Chloe Dufour, Rhett Dufour, Keira Dufour, and Tatum O’Connor. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Mass Of Christian burial will be held Saturday August 10, 2024 from the Saint Benedicts Catholic Church Johns Creek at 12:30 pm. The family will accept visitors at Saint Benedicts from 11:30 am to the time of service.
The family of Webster Anthony Cognevich would also like to invite those who knew and loved Webster to a gathering at Benecia Ammons’ residence following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Purple Pansy for Pancreatic Cancer or St. Jude research.
