Welbie "Andy" Andrew Walden, age 71 of Crawfordsville, passed away on September 10, 2025 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on January 14, 1954 to Ancil and Ruby (Geralds) Walden in Tompkinsville, KY. Andy spent his childhood between Tompkinsville with Ruby and Charlie Sturgeon and New Richmond, IN, lovingly raised by his grandparents, Theodore "DiDi" and Ermie "MaMa". He married Peggy Dennis on May 19, 2009 in Las Vegas.
Andy attended Coal Creek Schools and graduated from Southwestern High School, Class of 1972. In his younger years, he was a painter for Dodds Painting in Lafayette. Andy later moved to industrial and radioactive painting at J.L. Manta throughout the country for over 20 years. In 1995, he moved to Crawfordsville to be vice president at W. Enterprises, semi retiring 5 years ago.
Andy was a member of the Eagles Lodge. He loved being outdoors, riding his Harley, golfing and fishing. Andy also enjoyed late model racing and watching NASCAR. He was a diehard Bears fan. Most important was spending time with his family, especially the grandkids, and having a family cookout with a Miller Lite in hand.
Andy is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; children, Andrhea (Brandon) Starkey, Patrick (Tiffanie) Walden, Raeann (Erick) Ingram; Andrew (Abby) Walden, Nathan (Amber) Hathaway; grandchildren, Nolan, Lacey, Joshua, Tessa, Micah, Gavin, Winter, Michael, Harrison, Clay, Owen, Ethan, Milah, Oakland and Nova; siblings, Dan Walden, Randy (Diana) Walden, Roy (Sarah Dodds) Sturgeon and Charlotte Blizzard; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Ruby and Charlie Sturgeon; brothers, Jerry Dean Walden and Brad Walden; and sister-in-law, Mary Walden.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Sanders Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at 7:00pm. An informal graveside service and burial of Andy's urn will be on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11:00am at New Richmond Cemetery.
