CMSGT Weldon F.G. Lewis, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Born October 14, 1943, in Franklin County, Weldon was the son of the late Rassie Floyd Lewis and Virginia Adell Morgan Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol Sue Lewis and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, April Dehu and husband Vinnie; daughter, Teresa Dues and husband Van; daughter, Pamelia Lewis and husband Dave; stepson, Michael Allen and wife Beverly; stepson, Mitch Allen and wife Liz; chosen daughter, Jackie Malinsky and husband Jason; grandchildren, Enzo Dehu, Cassius Dehu, Ashley Vitale, Alex Allen, Bailey Ruffin, and Krista Allen; siblings, Betsy Jones, Cortez Lewis, Thomas Lewis, and Lynn Hawkins; favorite nieces, Tara Fisher and husband Ryan and Lisa Sheaves and husband Larry; loving caregiver, Zarana Burgess; fur babies, Cooper the dachshund and Figgy the cat; and a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Weldon honorably served in the U.S. Air Force for over 28 years, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant before retiring in 1988. During his military career, he dutifully served in Vietnam and earned numerous awards and medals, including the Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and several Bronze and Silver Oak Clusters. Following his military career, Weldon went to work with the NC State Correctional Facilities for 20 years.

His time in the Air Force lead him to develop a love for anything military, especially when it involved aircrafts. Over the years he became a master storyteller, sharing his war stories with anyone he could. He was proud of his flag and his country.

In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors either tinkering with cars or building birdhouses. Other times he could be found enjoying NASCAR and rooting for his favorite driver Dale Earnhardt.

Weldon was a devout Christian who continually strengthened his faith as a longtime member of Breezewood Church. He enjoyed fellowship with his family and friends, especially his grandsons whom he loved dearly.

Weldon will be remembered for his kind heart, his gentle soul, and his love for the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by everyone who knew and loved him.

Flowers are always welcome, but memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org or to the Vietnam Veterans of America at vva.org.
