Weldon Herbert von Minden, 85, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, January 18, 2025. He was born in La Grange, Texas on August 3, 1939, to Albert and Katherine (Wiemken) von Minden. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a dear and loyal friend to many in the community.
He graduated from La Grange High School in 1957. He married Carol Wunderlich on November 6, 1960, and they began their 63 years of a happy married life in La Grange.
Weldon was a super gifted self-taught musician and was a long-time member of the Hi Notes. Quoted from the cover of their album “Country boys . . . with a country band . . . playing in country towns . . . in their own country way!” Every weekend, they would fill up dance halls across Central Texas. From the 50’s through the 70’s, the four talented band members worked by day and played by night. Weldon played lead, rhythm and steel guitar, and provided vocals also. The Hi Notes will always be remembered as a part of Texas dance hall history and Weldon was a large part of their successes.
Weldon worked for the Lower Colorado River Authority in La Grange and Austin for many years. He retired and started his own business, architectural and electrical firm, von Minden Electric. In the early years of his life, he was also a hard-working dairy farmer and Angus cattle rancher.
Throughout his life, Weldon loved deer hunting with family and friends and was an accomplished marksman. He spent a lot of his free time traveling in his RV with wife Carol to the Hill Country especially during peak peach season in Fredericksburg and Ingram. He also was an avid Aggie and Longhorn fan while following his family’s educational accomplishments and careers. God Bless this larger than life true born and bred Texan.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia and spouse Ken Stohr, and Pamela and spouse Larry Wyant; one son, Bradley and spouse Misti von Minden; cherished grandchildren Dr. Clint Taylor IV, Lee Ann and Michael Herman, Amy Wyant, Jordyn and Taylor Mann, Landon von Minden, and equally cherished great-grandchildren Peyton Herman, Walker Herman and Memphis Mann. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law Mary and spouse Erland Schulze, and Debbie and spouse DuWayne Pfeffer, brother-in-law Jimmy and spouse Ruth Wunderlich, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Carol von Minden, who passed away on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2024, loving parents Albert and Katherine von Minden, brothers Wilburn, Charles and Leslie “Kermit” von Minden, sister Estelle Becker and sister-in-law Janice and spouse Al Fridel.
