Wendell Charles Blue, age 78, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
He was born on June 14, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Frank Sr. and Mildred Blue. Wendell was preceded in death by his sister, Lynette Johnson; brothers Donald Blue and Frank Blue Sr. and daughter, Darlene Blue.
Wendell proudly served in the United States Armed Forces for 11 years.
Following his honorable service, he returned to Cincinnati and worked at Klosterman's Bakery until his retirement. Never one to stay idle, Wendell went on to establish and manage a successful janitorial business for eight years.
Wendell was a social and spirited man who cherished time with his family. He was an avid bowler and card player. Known for his sharp sense of style-his clothes were always neatly pressed, with crisp creases in his pants, a habit he carried proudly from his military days.
A trusted mentor since childhood, Wendell was often sought out by relatives for guidance. Many brought their children to him for counseling, life skills development, and discipline, knowing he offered wisdom with compassion.
In his later years, Wendell found joy in watching cowboy and crime shows, and he remained a passionate sports fan. He especially loved football and boxing, and he never tired of rewatching memorable games, most notably, the Ohio State University's 2014 playoff championship series, which he viewed again and again, with great enthusiasm. Wendell's life was marked by service, family, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures. He will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering pride in all he did.
Wendell leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Janie; children, Wendelyn Burgin, Bernard (Chakisha) Davis, and Kimberly Allen; siblings, Barbara Johnson, Barry Blue, and Kimberly (JD) Moses, ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Wendell will be remembered for his kindness, wise counsel, sharp wit, and unmistakable deep laugh. His presence brought joy to all who knew him.
His legacy lives on in the hearts he touched.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Bethel Baptist Church, 2712 Alms Place, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be laid to rest at Walnut Hills Cemetery.
