Gerald Pfeiffer Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Raymond Pfeiffer, 87, of Cincinnati passed away on November 6th after an illness.

He was born April 19, 1938 to Catherine Cecelia Ollinger and Raymond Valentine Pfeiffer of St. Bernard. After graduating from Roger Bacon High School in 1956, he went on to study at both Xavier University and University of Cincinnati, earning his medical degree and subsequently serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

After being honorably discharged, he went on to care for many people in the Mercy and Jewish Hospital systems, where he also met the love of his life, Maureen. They married in 1976 and went on to have a wonderful 49 years together.

Jerry loved spending time with his wife. In addition to listening to music and going to concerts, he and Marnie enjoyed working together on her radio program. They also volunteered at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve for several years.

Together, they had two children, Steve and Heather. After Jerry retired, he joked that he was busier than when he was working, as he was driving his children around to activities, spending lots of time with his family, etc.

He was a talented pianist who loved nothing more than listening to (and playing) his beloved Big Band music. Throughout his school years, he consistently played in a band. His record collection encompassed multiple genres and was legendary within the family. Other hobbies included trains (on which he took his family several times) and nature. He enjoyed teaching and quizzing his family on tree identification. He loved his family more than anything and will be dearly missed in turn.

Jerry is preceded by his parents, his uncle Fr. Leo Pfeiffer, O.F.M., and his brother, Tim. He is survived by his wife Maureen, his children Steve and Heather, his sisters Maureen Taylor, Karen Gerwel, and Virginia Cecil, and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a devout Catholic. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gertrude Church on Thursday, November 13th at 1 PM. He will be buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Because of family health problems, there will be no Visitation before or Reception after the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Life Issues Institute.
