Wendy Rae Freidel, 73, of Aberdeen, S.D. and formerly of Gettysburg, died Thursday, August 22, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Services for Wendy will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 28 at Sovereign Grace Church in Aberdeen with Pastor Sam Ellyson officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Ethan Hillcrest Cemetery in Ethan.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main St.
Wendy was born Sept. 23, 1950 to Leo and Alice (Pierson) Freidel, in Pierre, S.D. Her family moved to Gettysburg when she was young. Wendy graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1968 and later received her nursing degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen. She worked as a nurse in Strasburg, N.D. before returning to Gettysburg, where she raised her six children, Kevin, Brad, Matthew, Amanda, Cory and Ashley.
Wendy found great joy in music and loved to play the piano and sing, particularly hymns and other music that could be heard on the Gaither Homecoming Hour. She also had a passion for dancing, a love she inherited from her mother. Wendy taught line dancing in Gettysburg and the surrounding areas, and may have taught her children a line dance or two. Wendy loved animals with a particular soft spot for horses, cats and dogs. After her father's passing, Wendy took over caring for a hobby farm just outside of Gettysburg. It was her own little slice of heaven on earth. In her later years, she enjoyed feeding and watching birds, a hobby she continued after moving to Aberdeen to be closer to her family.
Above all, Wendy loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and prayed diligently for her children and grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely. Wendy had a unique sense of humor – one that her children all share – and loved spending time with her family.
Grateful for having shared Wendy's life are her children Kevin (Kristi) Bliese, Matthew (Kallyn) Freidel, Brad (Ahlaqui Blindman) Freidel, Amanda (Jerry Clark) Freidel, Cory (Jacque) Niles and Ashley (Michael) Millsap; her grandchildren Connor Duven, Bridger Bliese, Jevon Freidel, Jordan Marcucci, Ariel Lemler, Caleb, Tyson and Ava Clark, Lillian, Parker, Gabriel, Zoey and Esben Niles and Michael 'Mikey' Millsap; her siblings Jerry (Barb) Freidel, Kerry (Sandy) Freidel and Angela (Amy) Carigen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Alice.
