Wenonah Jean Ebey (Nichols), beloved wife, mother and granny, unexpectedly passed away on October 4th, 2024.
Jean was born in Pontiac, Michigan on November 25, 1945. She graduated from Pontiac Northern High School and married her high school sweetheart, Doug Ebey, on February 7, 1964. Their young family soon grew by two as they welcomed children Debby and Pamela. Homes in Pontiac, Lake Orion and White Lake, Michigan followed as they raised their daughters. They retired to Black River, Michigan, on the shore of Lake Huron in 1998.
Throughout her life Jean taught herself many different crafting and sewing skills including: seamstress, quilting, cross stitching, stained glass, and doll house making. Quilted bedspreads, wall hangings and table runners; cross stitched masterpieces large and small; clothing for her daughters, grandchildren and even Deb’s wedding dress; intricate dollhouse mansions for her granddaughters; stained glass art of varied types; all flowed from hands that never seemed to be at rest. There was never a time when Jean was not working on some project. In fact, her sewing machine was sitting on the dining room table, mid project, when she passed. Her beautiful works of art adorn the houses of family and friends throughout Michigan and beyond. Precious family heirlooms that will be treasured and passed on with the knowledge that “Granny made this”.
Family and friends were very important to Jean. And she would let you know it because Granny didn’t mince words. Loving wife and mother, adoring grandmother, jovial, gullible mother in-law and good friend. We will miss her skilled hands, matter-of fact attitude, joking manner and warm loving heart.
Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Doug, her sister Kathryn, her children Debby (Dave) and Pamela (Mike) and grandchildren Ashley (Cameron), Max, Melanie (Kevin), Marina, Miranda, Doug and John.
There will be a private family ceremony held at a future date.
