Wilbert Hampton Jr. (better known as Wil) was born on February 19, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Mr. Wilbert Hampton Sr. and the late Mrs. Varrie Neva Green Hampton. He departed this life after a brief illness on December 9, 2025.
Wil was born, raised and educated in New Orleans, LA. As a child he attended Second Baptist Church Sixth District where he was baptized and sang in the youth choir. Wil was a gifted clarinet player. He attended and graduated from Saint Augustine H.S of New Orleans where he was the Drum Major for four years. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corp from December 1975 to December 1981. As a Marine, he traveled around the U.S. and abroad as the Marine band leader. After leaving the Marines, he returned home to New Orleans and worked many years as a bus driver for New Orleans Regional Transit Authority.
Wil eventually moved to Georgia. While there he worked for Marta for a short time before beginning his employment with the U.S Postal Service in Alpharetta, GA in April 2000. He retired from the USPS in February 2022.
Wilbert was a quiet man who deeply loved his wife Mrs. Linda Hampton whom he married in 2002.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbert Hampton Sr. and Varrie Hampton; sons Miles Wilbert Hampton and Ronnie Hampton.
Wil is survived by his wife Linda Hampton; son Wilbert Hampton III; daughters Shawn Marie Jackson, Tanya Talita Jackson, Britney Hampton, Kelly Hampton, and Angel Hampton.
Wil is also survived by three sisters Mrs. Theonita M. Butler, Mrs. Cheryl Lynn Tyler, Terronita M. Hampton and one brother Wayne Jolla; one sister-in-law Marquita Jolla and two brothers-in-law Rev. John Butler and Rev Joel Tyler; nine grandchildren; a host of nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephew plus a host of other relatives and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
