Wilbur James Loy, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born on February 9, 1934, to Wilbur James and Mildred Mottishaw Loy in Youngstown, Ohio, and most recently resided at Otterbein Sunset House. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Donna Rowlands Loy, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.
A proud graduate of Youngstown State University, Bill served in the Army before embarking on a successful career as a manufacturer's representative and eventually owning his own business. After retirement, he enjoyed 20 peaceful years living on Mullett Lake in Michigan, a place he cherished deeply and where he created countless memories with family and friends.
Bill's passions were many, with fishing, boating, hunting, and traveling among his favorite pastimes. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, often in beautiful settings by water. Bill also enjoyed reading and had a lifelong love affair with cars. He was known for his hilarious sense of humor that brought laughter to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, sister, Patricia Loy of Cleveland, Ohio, and children: Jim Loy (Kim Knoernschild) of Clinton, Tennessee; Jack (Beth) Loy of Sylvania, Ohio; Jill (Garry) Netter of Ottawa Hills, Ohio; and Jenny (John) Welch of Fort Worth, Texas. Bill was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and adored his 11 great-grandchildren.
Bill will be remembered for his loving spirit, commitment to family, and the joyful memories he created throughout his life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from Noon-4:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo. A private burial service will be held this summer in Indian River, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charity of choice, or Mullett Lake Area Preservation Society.
