Wiley Lee Gladson, Jr., age 81, a man whose heart was as expansive as the fairways he loved, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025. Known for his quick wit, unwavering kindness, and generous spirit, Wiley left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to call him a friend, a father, grandpa, or "Pa," as his dear great-granddaughter called him.
Wiley was a man of immense skill and dedication. He dedicated 26 years of his career to the Los Alamos National Laboratory. His expertise and leadership were evident to all who worked alongside him, as he served as an Area Coordinator for the Administration Building for much of his tenure. He took great pride in his work, applying the same precision to his craft that he did to every other facet of his life.
A sportsman through and through, Wiley's life was defined by the rhythm of the game. His passion for athletics spanned a lifetime, ranging from the strategy of football to his deep love for baseball and softball. Whether he was rounding the bases himself or standing behind the plate as an umpire, Wiley was a fixture on the field. He brought a sense of fairness and a genuine love for the sport to every game he officiated.
When he wasn't at the ballpark or lining up a crucial putt on the eighteenth green, he was likely found in the quiet of the woods or casting a line into the water. He found immense peace in hunting and fishing, appreciating the patience of the catch and the camaraderie of the great outdoors.
Those who knew him best will remember his humor and his legendary sweet tooth. Wiley never met a dessert he didn't like, and he was well-known for sneaking an extra treat whenever he could. He had a gift for finding the light in any situation, often using a well-timed joke, and perhaps a shared piece of candy to lift the spirits of those around him.
While he loved his work, the game, and the outdoors, Wiley's greatest "hole-in-one" was his family. He was a pillar of strength and a constant source of love and laughter.
He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife, Jane Gladson. His legacy of kindness and fun continues through his children, Deborah Lee Gladson and Wiley Lee Gladson Ill. Wiley took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Kassandra Lee Weahkee, and his heart grew even larger with the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Weahkee. He taught his family that the secret to a good life was to be kind, be generous, and always save room for dessert.
Wiley Lee Gladson, Jr. lived a life full of rounds well-played and love well-shared. He will be deeply missed, but his laughter will echo in the hearts of his family and friends every time they see a green fairway, hear the crack of a bat, or open a box of ice cream sandwiches.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., at the FRENCH - Rio Rancho Chapel.
