Wilfredo Cervantes Camacho, 82, died on May 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The son of Manuel De Carmen Camacho and Genoveva Cervantes, he was born on September 12, 1941, in Panama Canal Zone, Panama. He went to primary public school in La Chorera and at the Curundu both in Panama. He then continued to secondary school in Colon called Margarita. His dad was a civilian in the Marine and traveled which caused him to move to several areas. Wilfredo was a star athlete and won many medals in Track. His family moved to Puerto Rico, and he graduated from High School. Straight out of High School Wilfredo became an apprentice under Boky, who was the owner of auto mechanic shop in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. His career took off as a well-known mechanic. He then married Carmen Cordova and they had two sons Wilfredo and Angel who are now deceased. Wilfredo Jr. and Angel have 4 living children and 6 great-grandchildren. Wilfredo divorced and moved to the United States with Eligia Aponte Robles to Brooklyn, New York and bought a house. They had six children, five daughters and one son, Sol N. Rodriguez, Genoveva Camacho, Daisy Colon-Camacho, Maria Brown, Alfredo Camacho, and Borinquen Young. Continuing his mechanical education, he attended Apex Tech in Brooklyn, New York as a diesel mechanic. He then decided to explore his horizons becoming a truck driver for the North American company in which his Brother Octavio Camacho informed him about. Wilfredo continued to live in Brooklyn and after numerous grandchildren and a much-needed space for his big tractor trailer he decided to move to
Ashtabula, Ohio in 2003. He lived with his daughter Genoveva Camacho until he bought a house in 2006. Wilfredo was forced to retire due to his health around the year 2014. Wilfredo continued to live with his wife Eligia until her passing in April 2017. His daughter Borinquen came with her family to live and care for him. She then moved and between his daughter Genoveva and granddaughter Dagmar they continued to take care of Wilfredo. He then suffered an issue with his pacemaker and had to get an 8-hour procedure to repair it so it can function normally. He continued to live on West 58th St. His granddaughter Dagmar and her husband German moved in shortly after with their children. They gave him the comfort he so lovingly deserved. A few years after they moved into a bigger house having him staying on the main floor. Wilfredo lost his mom of 98 years in January 2024. Wilfredo continued to struggle with his health, however, after his mom's passing, he developed pneumonia and continued to have falls. He ended up in the hospital and shortly after was sent to a nursing home. Wilfredo did not have a good stay at the nursing home. The family decided to discharge him from the nursing home after many falls and the lack of care of. Wilfredo came home and after his appointment from his cardiologist he was put on Hospice. His family came from everywhere to help care for him and say their goodbyes. As a hardworking man, his love for cars showed when he would also work the weekends fixing cars for family and friends. Wilfredo was a great husband and father who had always provided for his family. Although he was always busy working, he never failed his family at home. In his younger years he loved going fishing and swimming in the ocean. After moving to Ohio and having to retire he enjoyed staying in his garage rebuilding engines and car parts. He loved the company of his grandkids, and he helped raise a few of them. Although it's a bit overbearing when the whole family was together, that was the one thing he loved the most because it made Eligia, the love of his life, happy. Rodriguez of New York, Genoveva Camacho of Ashtabula, Daisy Colon-Camacho of New York City, Maria Brown of New York, Alfredo Camacho of Geneva, and Borinquen Young of Indiana; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren, plus one on the way; three great-great grandchildren, plus one on the way; and many nephews and nieces.
