Dr. Will Ye Koo Lee, 83, of Lawnside, NJ, passed away on May 15, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.
Will was born on January 21, 1942 in Daegu, Korea. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1967, he went on to receive his Ph. D from Stony Brook University in Mathematics.
After graduation, he landed a prestigious job as an Associate Professor for Rutgers University in 1971. He continued to work there for 54 years. Only last year, when physically unable, did he stop teaching. He loved teaching and found incredible joy in it. His remarkable work ethic and love of teaching brought him through countless chemo treatments and provided a purpose and comfort especially during his latter years.
In 1973, he married Sue K. Lee, going on to have three children, Frank, Donna and Joanne. He once remarked, "Marrying your mother was the best decision I ever made." He believed fate had brought them together.
Will was a kind, compassionate man determined to provide for his family and give them the life he never had. He achieved the American dream. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Will was unendingly proud of Frank, Esther, Donna, Steve, Joanne, and Kevin and always supported them. He prayed for them and their children every single day. He once shared that having grandchildren healed a part of his heart. There was nothing he would not do for his family.
Will was a faithful believer in God and loved his church. He sacrificed his time, money and strength for the love of our Lord. He prayed and read the Bible daily. In his darkest moments, verses, hymns and prayers would bring him peace and comfort.
Anyone who knew Will knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Will is survived by his beloved wife, Sue, and his children, Frank and his family, Esther (spouse), Kaitlyn, Ryan, and Felicia; Donna and her family, Steve (spouse), Timothy, Joshua, and Samuel; Joanne and her family, Kevin (spouse), Anna, Jesse, and Ian.
The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Grace Presbyterian Church 325 S. White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ. There will be a viewing on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church followed by a service beginning at 7:00 PM. Interment private..
