Obituary for Willard L. Mountjoy
Willard l. Mountjoy
July 17, 1939-August 14, 2025
Willard Lee Mountjoy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community servant, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on July 17, 1939, in Stafford, Virginia, to Jessie and Edna Mountjoy, Willard grew up in Dumfries, Virginia, where he would later dedicate much of his life to service.
A proud veteran, Willard served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 and was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He held leadership roles in both military and civic organizations, including serving as commander of American Legion Post 28 in Dumfries. His commitment to his community was equally strong-he served as Mayor of Dumfries from 1978 to 1980 and was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he also served as a deacon.
Willard was a man of many passions. He was an avid boater and golfer, a master gardener, a dedicated Little League baseball coach, a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders and Nationals, and an antique restorer.
He graduated from Gar-Field High School and attended Bridgewater College.
Willard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Brock Mountjoy; his daughter, Amy Galyen (husband Chad); his son, Willard "Lee" Mountjoy, Jr. (wife Candy); his cherished grandchildren Jesse Goulla, Sarah Mountjoy, Jordan Goulla (wife Ayla), Zachary Mountjoy, and great-grandchildren Daxton; and Willard's brother, Raymond Mountjoy (wife Sherrill).
A service to celebrate Willard's life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 12700 Black Forest Lane, Woodbridge, VA 22172, on August 23, 2025, at a time to be determined.
Willard's legacy of service, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
