William Frank Albers November 9, 1931 – August 10, 2025 William Frank Albers, 93, of Galway, NY, passed away peacefully on August 10 2025. Born on November 9, 1931, in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Edwin Walter Albers and Carrie (nee Wolf) Albers.
Bill was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, NY class of 1949. From there he attended Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, graduating in 1954 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years before further pursuing his education. He earned a Masters from MIT in Boston, MA and then a Doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Rensselaer, NY, and went on to have a distinguished career as a mechanical engineer. He worked with General Electric from 1956 until his retirement in 1996, then continued to contribute his expertise for an additional 12 years with the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 2010.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was a passionate and dedicated runner. He competed in cross country all four years in high school and five years at Cornell. He continued to run in his later years, running the Boston Marathon multiple times, even into his mid-40s, inspiring those around him with his discipline and determination. Bill's other interests included the Boys Scouts of America (he earned his Eagle Scout), social justice causes and working on advanced math problems.
Bill is survived by his children Katherine L. Albers, Rachel Albers Diamond (James), W. Lewis Albers (Mary), David W. Albers (Megan O'Brien), Jennifer E. Albers, Matthew J. Albers, and Sean Q. Lee. He was a proud grandfather to Elizabeth N. Diamond, Christine Diamond Frick (Robert), Alexandra Diamond Mahoney (Jeff), and Samuel D. Albers.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY. A brief memorial service will follow at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at 12:30 p.m. the same day at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Saratoga, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the Saratoga Hospital Foundation, the American Cancer Society or a social justice cause of choice.
