Dr. William Jackson Alexander III, affectionately known as "Doc", passed away on
Saturday, June 29, 2024, in Rogers, AR after a long battle with vascular dementia. He was born to
William Jackson Alexander Jr. and Betty Lawrence Woodard Alexander on June 9, 1949, in
Wilson, AR.
William graduated from Wilson High School, class of 1967, and went on to pursue his
passion for sciences at The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where he earned his
Bachelor of Arts in Zoology in 1971. He went on to medical school where he earned his
Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Arkansas Health Sciences in Little Rock, AR in
1975. In 1976, he pursued postgraduate training in pediatrics at the University of Alabama
Health Sciences, Children's Hospital, in Birmingham, Alabama. William was a life-long
learner and thus continued his education earning a Masters of Business Administration
degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1992. From 1990-1994, "Doc"
participated in courses in Masters of Public Health with the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Throughout his career, Dr. Alexander worked for over 40 years as a practicing physician,
medical director, product development team leader with the Colorado Foundation for
Medical Care, and an occupation/environmental medicine consultant.
Although his career was a huge part of his life, William also enjoyed cooking and fine wine
along with gardening. He had a true love for the outdoors and the state of Colorado. Upon
his retirement, Dr. Alexander returned to Northwest Arkansas to be closer to his sister
Janine and her daughter Penny.
William is preceded in death by his father and mother, W.J. and Betty Alexander, his brother
James David Alexander, and his sister Julia Isabelle Smith.
"Doc" is survived by his brothers and sisters, Mapra Alexander Gentry, Janine (Joe) Stratton,
Eldon (Carolyn) Alexander, and Steve Alexander. He is also survived by many beloved nieces
and nephews.
