William Lee Anas died peacefully surrounded by family in the early hours of Monday, June 10, 2024. He was born on October 7, 1938 in Charlottesville, VA to George Kostas Anas and Gertrude Lee Anas and the youngest of three sons.
Willie was a 1957 graduate of Lane High School and the proud recipient of a scholarship to the University of Virginia. While attending UVA, Willie simultaneously owned and operated the infamous Jefferson Snack Bar with his mother and two brothers until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961. Willie was assigned to the 549th MP Company, which patrolled the Panama Canal Zone.
In 1962, while still serving in the Army, Willie married the love of his life, Ethyline Virginia Mickey Gamble. Together they had three children, Tina Marye, William Leslie and Kristen Lee.
An avid photographer and film maker from a young age,Willie pursued a career in the new medium of cable TV. He worked his way from cameraman at Charlottesvilles Jefferson Cable Company to upper management with several cable companies. Willies career spanned decades and states! With his family he relocated from Charlottesville to Waynesboro to Mansfield, Ohio to Williamsburg, VA to Martinsville and finally back to Williamsburg, where he and Mickey settled until his retirement at 62.
Willie and Mickey made a final move to Santee, SCwhere they designed and built their dream home. Thanks in part to a contractor friend, who recognized Willies eye for detail and craftsmanship, Willie acquired the knowledge and skills to turn their ideas and dreams into a reality.
Retirement offered Willie and Mickey the opportunity to travel and most importantly, afforded them time to spend with their children and grandchildren, visit other family and friends and enjoy the benefits of the Lake Marion Community.
Willie is survived by his daughter, Tina Anas Gibson and husband, Tim and their daughter, Lola, of Knoxville, TN and son, William Leslie Anas and wife, Pam and their children, Nathan, Theodore and Vivian, of Salem, VA and great grandchildren Esther, Bennet and Margaret of Saluda, VA as well as many nieces and nephews.
Willie was predeceased by his mother and father; an infant daughter, Kristen; his mother-in-law, Ethel Virginia Gamble; brothers, Ernest and James; sisters-in-law, Ruth and Catharine and his cherished wife of 56 years, Mickey.
Willie was a true southern gentleman. He never met a stranger and he always left people with a laugh and a smile. He was adored by many and accumulated friends throughout his life; The Belmont Boys of Charlottesville, his multiple church communities, his revered fellow 549ers and many friends, neighbors and coworkers.
Fair winds and following seas, sir. We have the watch.
Rest in peace.
At this time, arrangements are incomplete.
