WILLIAM A. BAIR "The Commander" OBITUARY On May 7, 2024, William Bair (age 92) - known to many as "Bill" or "The Commander" departed us to nearer to God and the wife Patricia. Bill was born in New York. His parents were Henry Bair and Anna Bair. Bill grew up in a very small town in North Central Pennsylvania, and then attended Penn State for two years, after attaining an appointment he then graduated from the Naval Academy with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1955. Bill traveled the world and attained the rank of Commander, USN. Initially, he served as a line officer aboard the USS Albany, and then after becoming a Seabee in Troy NY; he was stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base CA; ROK Navy in Seoul, Korea; UC Berkley in Oakland, CA; Norfolk Naval Base, VA; AEC Germantown, MD; Da Nang and Saigon, Vietnam; SHAPE Headquarters, Belgium; The Pentagon, VA; and Forrestal Campus Princeton, NJ; and finally 89th Floor, Two World Trade Center, NY. The Commander attained a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer and attained another Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering at University of California at Berkley. After The Commander retired from the Navy, he worked in High Energy Physics at the Princeton University's Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor. The Commander will be sadly missed by his son Joe and family.
Scheduled service and burial will be privately held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
