William Arthur Barry (Bill), 76, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his home. Born on January 30, 1949, on the Northside of Pittsburgh, Bill grew up with a deep love for his city, sports, and community. He was a proud Northside kid, spending his youth playing sports and becoming a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and after serving in the Vietnam War, he was subsequently stationed in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he dedicated his career as a Union Heavy Machinery Mechanic at ALCOSAN, where he worked tirelessly until retirement. He took immense pride in his work and the friendships he built along the way.
Bill had many passions, but his love for weapons, mechanics, and animals stood out most. He enjoyed collecting and maintaining firearms, showing the same care and precision he brought to every task. A skilled handyman, he was always the first to lend a hand-even if it came with a little yelling. He adored his dogs and took every chance to spoil his pets and grand-puppies, especially his beloved boxers, Tarot, Jackpot, & Jughead.
Known for his humor and impeccable (and sometimes questionable) timing, Bill had a knack for making people laugh-whether on purpose or not. His sharp wit and occasional outbursts, often blamed on his hearing loss from the Army and years spent around loud machinery, became part of his charm.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband to his wife, Georgiann, a proud father to Peter Barry, Shannon Kabala (Jerry), T.J. Barry (Jessica), and a loving grandfather to Taylor, Meadow, Ryleigh, Caroline, and Zak. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and providing for his family. He was fiercely proud of being a U.S. Army veteran and flew the American and POW-MIA flags in his yard every day.
Bill's life will be celebrated with family and friends at Boylan-Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Svcs., Inc., 130 Wisconsin Ave, Cranberry Twp, PA 16066, on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025; visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the service at 12 Noon with Pastor Reid Moon as Celebrant - In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Vietnam Veterans of America at https://vva.org/donate/?form=FUNDAVTAZBC.
