It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William George Barstow, 78, of Bradenton, Florida, on September 27, 2025, at the Casa Mora Rehabilitation and Extended Care facility. Bill was born and raised in Dunellen, New Jersey, the son of George and Dorothy Barstow. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Col. Charles Barstow, USMC, and his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara. He is survived by his nieces, Delores Broski and Victoria Favret, nephews Charles Barstow and Wallace Barstow, as well as cousins Susan Hauck and her husband David, and Gene Tromly and his wife Barbara. Bill cherished the lifelong friendships of Dale and Brenda Jacquish, John Maccloud, the late Jim Heard, and Faust Wertz, whose love and support enriched his life. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to Kathy Grammer, Gary and Linda Hoolsema, and Ray and Pat Halperin for their friendship during his years in Bradenton. An excellent student and gifted musician, Bill found joy in singing and playing the clarinet. He also treasured his years playing baseball in Little League and on his high school varsity team. His love of music never faded-he attended countless choral and symphonic concerts and especially treasured his time at the Sarasota Opera. His travels throughout Europe allowed him to combine his love of music with his admiration for the grand architecture of the continent's concert halls. Bill was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned a BS in psychology. A lifelong Wolverine, he followed Michigan sports faithfully while also cheering on his beloved New York Yankees. Among his many hobbies, Bill was an avid collector of vintage fountain pens, building an impressive collection and deep knowledge of these century-old writing instruments. Later in life, he discovered a new passion for pickleball, which brought him both joy and a wonderful circle of friends. Professionally, Bill dedicated 35 years to the State of New Jersey, first working in drug and alcohol counseling and later in grant writing to secure federal funding. He was known for his talent, resourcefulness, and the respect and affection he earned from both peers and supervisors. Bill was a true friend and a steady guiding presence in the lives of many, endearing himself to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will be held later this year. The family asks those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Bill's name.
