William Baxter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 27, 2025.
William Theodore Baxter passed away at the age of 98 on Christmas Day 2025. He and his wife M Carol Baxter had been married 75 years prior to her passing on July 2nd earlier this year. Their love was so strong that a piece of his heart was lost the day she passed.

(William) Bill was born on April 1st, 1927 in Lewistown, Montana to Earl Herman Baxter and Jennie Beatrice Baxter. He had two older sisters Carole Louise (Baxter) Roadcap, Frances Marion (Baxter) Barnhart, and a younger sister Barbara Beatrice (Baxter) Stellmon.

Bill served in the Navy on the USS Miami at the end of WWll. He was very proud of his time in the service.

After his return he moved to Billings to attend Rocky Mtn College. During this time he met the love of his life, Carol, at a roller rink. Bill loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and had already owned 3 of them, his currant one was a 1949 with the first springer front fork and it was his pride and joy. He and Carol dated on it with many adventures. When fall came and it became too cold, Bill decided to sell it to purchase a car and a wedding ring.

Bill and Carol were married on December 18th 1949 on the coldest snowiest day of the year but their hearts were warm with love. This was the beginning of their 75 years of marriage.

A couple of years later they welcomed their first cute baby boy, Dennis Earl Baxter, followed by a girl Raynae Ann (Baxter) Redman, another boy Larry Jay Baxter, and Dayna Lynn (Baxter) Montoya.

Bill and Carols greatest love was for their children, their church family at Central Christian Church in Billings, Roots Fellowship in Victor Montana and all their close friends.

Bill worked as a counselor at Job Service in Billings and was always proud of how he could help young men find good jobs to provide for their families.

Bill loved to fish and camp so most vacations before retirement were spent camping and fishing with his family. After retirement he and Carol bought a motorhome that brought many adventures as they traveled the entire US in it with their friends. They loved being snowbirds in Arizona for about 20 winters.

When Carol passed away in July of this year he lost a piece of his heart and never recovered from the loss and he passed away from a broken heart.

Preceding Bill I death was his wife of 75 years Carol, his parents, his siblings, one grandson Jason Michael Baxter, and one great great Robert Hugh.

He is survived by his children, Dennis, Raynae, Larry, and Dayna; also 11 grand kids, 25 great grand kids, and 11 great greats.

Bill was one of my favorite residents at Seasons. I loved coming into seeing him and visit with him throughout the night. My last shift before he passed he said he was so comfortable after all the help I gave him. I loved taking care of Bill. I´m so happy he´s been reunited with his wife.
